Man identified in railway fatality

PLATTSBURGH - City Police have identified the victim in a fatal train accident which occurred Oct. 1.

An investigation by police and Canadian Pacific Railway Police identified Casey A. Campbell, 23, Plattsburgh, as the victim.

Independent eyewitness accounts state Campbell ran towards a Canadian Pacific Railway train on the tracks near the Margaret Street rail crossing. Campbell allegedly dove under the train as it was about to overtake him shortly after 5 p.m. The train was traveling southbound between Rouses Point and Saratoga Springs with 62 rail cars.

Campbell was pronounced dead at the scene by Clinton County Coroner David Donah.

The stopped train caused traffic to be blocked at most of the railway crossings in the city while the accident was being investigated.

The investigation is continuing.
