Sopczyk awarded for local food feature

WARRENSBURG - A local Cooperative Extension employee has won both state and national awards for her work in publicizing local food production and meal preparation using the produce.

Kimberly Sopczyk, Eat Smart NY Nutrition Community Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension in Warren County was honored recently at a convention of the National Extension Association for Family & Consumer Sciences.

The event was held recently in Birmingham, Alabama.

Sopczyk received the first place Regional Television & Video Communications Award which represents first place in New York State, and the second place National Communications Award for her work on WMHT's local television production "From Farm To Table." The award recognizes excellence in an educational or promotional feature.

From Farm to Table introduced viewers to farmers and regional experts who have perfected the craft of growing and producing local foods. The segments included cooking demonstrations with local products while offering tips on stretching food dollars.

"This award is granted to exceptional educators such as Kimberly Sopczyk for her commitment to meeting the needs of individuals and families in her community and beyond," a representative of the association said.
