Missed the century mark

Julia A. Varney died Oct. 28, 1909 at her home in Glens Falls in her 100th year. She was born Dec. 2, 1809 in Vergennes, Vt. and fell short by only 35 days of reaching her landmark birthday. Her father was a soldier in the Revolutionary War.

(Note...Records show that William Parr, 152 years old, on record as England's oldest man, was married the third time at the age of 120, worked in the fields until age 132. Locally, Mary Sage was 106 when she died in 1916 and Katherine Kettenbach was 107 when she died in 1981.)
