Movies return to downtown Rutland

RUTLAND - Motion pictures will return to the big screen in downtown Rutland. Movieplex 9, which closed last month, will reopen the multi-screen cinema complex Dec. 18, according to new management. It is uncertain if the cinema will also receive a new name.

Flagship Cinemas Inc. of Massachusetts, will lease the cinema through the Rutland Shopping Plaza, according to a source at the Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce.

Flagship will also improve the theater for moviegoers by installing more comfortable seats, an upgraded digital sound system, an expanded snack and beverage stand plus new carpeting and other interior appointments. Flagship has indicated it will install a trendy digital 3-D projector for one of the nine main-screens.
