Trucking giant bridge beams to delay traffic on Route 7

MIDDLEBURY - The Route 7 corridor, from Route 125 to Water Street in downtown Middlebury, will be the sight of an unusual event Nov. 19 and 20-several giant concrete bridge beams will be transported at slow speeds from East Middlebury to downtown Middlebury. Middlebury schools will also close at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 19, in anticipation of the project which will cause traffic delays around the area.

Multiple trucks, with police escorts, will the transport giant concrete span beams for the new Cross Street bridge in downtown Middlebury. The beams are being moved from the Cararra yard in East Middlebury to the Otter Creek site next to Mr. Ups Restaurant.

Traffic delays are expected both north and south with considerable highway backups Nov. 19-20.

Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes such as Route 22A west of Middlebury. A portion of Route 116 will also be affected by the event.
