Both boys and girls Orange soccer made impressive showings in their leagues, but couldn't hold on to a win in sectional play. The boys fell to Willsboro 11-2 in the opening round, while the girls were shut out by Keene 2-0. Both teams, however, brought home a division title to Long Lake and Indian Lake Central Schools.
Johnsburg missed an opportunity to appear in playoffs as they fell to Schroon Lake in a preliminary game on Oct. 28.
The Lady Jags Field Hockey received a bye in the first week of sectional play.
Schroon Lake 2
JOHNSBURG - The preliminary round of the Section VII Class D playoffs was scoreless until freshman Jesse Shagunessy scored to pull Schroon Lake ahead of Johnsburg and eventually secure a win on Oct. 28.
Shagunessy shot again and scored seven minutes later. The Jaguars answered with about a minute remaining as Adrian Veldman connected on an assist from Sean O'Neill, but it wasn't enough to challenge the Wildcats' lead.
Johnsburg's Cory Gazaille has a close opportunity in the first half as a strong shot was deflected off the crossbar and landed on the goal line.
Keeper Dylan Wolfe saved 15 shots for the Jaguars, and Schroon Lake's Justin Saville stopped 12 in net.
Schroon Lake will travel to Chazy to play the top seed on Friday at 5 pm.
Indian/Long Lake 2
WILLSBORO - Patrick Wells scored four goals and added an assist in the opening round of Section VII Class D soccer play to top the Orange on Oct. 30.
Willsboro will take on Elizabethtown-Lewis in the next round.
The Warriors started off quick with four goals in the first 12 minutes of play. Clay Sherman and Alex Hamel added two goals each for Willsboro and secured a 5-1 lead at the half.
