Youth stay active

TICONDEROGA - First United Methodist Church in Ticonderoga includes young people in all its activities.

Children of the church participated with a Liturgical Dance Group on Palm Sunday as they distributed the palms. On Good Friday, the Youth Group presented a Passion Play and on Easter Sunday, the Children's Bell Choir performed.

Mother's Day Sunday, the Church School children participated in the morning worship service by greeting and ushering, reading the scriptures and leading prayers. They also presented a plant to the women of the church.

Every Sunday Acolytes participate in the morning worship service by lighting the candles, bringing a Bible to the altar, collecting the offering and performing other tasks as needed by Pastor Scott Tyler. The sound technician is also a youth of the congregation.

The Children's Message time during the 10:30 morning worship service draws all the youth to the front of the church for a message given by Tyler or another member of the congregation. From there, the children head to Sunday School classes geared to their age group.

On the first Sunday of each month children are instructed the sacrament of Holy Communion along with their families.

Regular Sunday School classes will continue into June and then resume in September.

Throughout the year the youngest of the church family may attend a nursery area in the Sunday School wing. For those children who prefer to stay in the Sanctuary during morning worship, a basket of activities can be found near the entrance.

The Youth Group for children in grades 4-12 meets every other Sunday evening at the church. For more information call Tyler at 585-7995.

The church will also host a Vacation Bible School this summer. Overnight church-based summer camps are also available to area youth. More information is available through the church office.
