Winter Carnival meets Wild West

SARANAC LAKE - It's time to dust off your chaps and ten-gallon hat.

The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Committee has announced the theme for the 2010 Winter Carnival: "Adirondack Cowboys."

"We had several very good suggestions for the 2010 theme", said Jeff Dickson, chairman of the Winter Carnival Committee, "and we decided to ask the community for help in making this difficult choice."

In addition to person-to-person surveys, the committee referred to results of a web poll conducted by the Adirondack Daily Enterprise. "Adirondack Cowboys" was the most popular, surpassing fiesta, heroes and villains, and circus themes.

"We were delighted with the community's response, and the committee believes that the 'Adirondack Cowboys' theme will provide many opportunities for people to participate," said Dickson.

Hundreds of attendees took on the trappings of last year's "Pirates of the Adirondacks" theme, donning eye patches, bandannas, and tricorn hats.

"We look forward to a variety of parade floats, individual costumes and other unique expressions of the theme," Dickson said. "The community's response to the 2009 theme was phenomenal and we expect nothing less next year."
