Voters to decide on school budgets

The amount to be raised by local taxes in the proposed budget is $1,723,664 - exactly the same as in the current budget.

"That's a 0 percent increase," Superintendent Matt Boucher said. "There is no tax increase."

Putnam residents will have a chance to vote on the proposed 2009-10 budget Tuesday, May 19, 1-8 p.m. at the school.

Boucher noted the current tax rates - $11.77 per $1,000 of assessed value in Putnam and Dresden, $7.69 in Ticonderoga - are anticipated to remain the same or decrease.

The Putnam school district has about 100 students, half attending grades kindergarten through six in Putnam and th rest attending Ticonderoga Central School on a tuition basis.

Boucher pointed out the proposed budget maintains all current programs and staff.

Also on the May 19 ballot will be Richard Trudeau, who is running unopposed for a five-year term on the Putnam school board.
