PLATTSBURGH - As the North Country gears up for the annual Plattsburgh Relay for Life, one local business is hosting a fundraiser of its own to help those battling cancer.
Tangles Hair Salon will host a Cancer Awareness Day Wednesday, May 20, encouraging customers to wear purple in support of cancer awareness. Those who do will have 50 percent of the cost of their services donated to the CVPH Fitzpatrick Cancer Center.
"It doesn't matter what service they have that day - anywhere from an eyebrow wax to a perm, to a color or haircut - anything. Fifty percent will automatically go to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center," said salon manager Jon Gerry. "It's just our way of do what we can to help our local cancer center. It's for a good cause."
The salon is known for its continued effort for helping local charitable causes and with the high cancer rates of the North Country, supporting cancer research and treatment is something many people can show support for, said Gerry.
"We need to do our part to raise cancer awareness. And, with the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center, many people have either been there for treatment or know someone who has," he said.
The salon will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will have a donation jar out for those not receiving services who would still like to make a contribution.
Tangles Hair Salon, 2 Conan Ave., Suite 107, may be reached Tuesday through Saturday at 324-4555.
