Skatepark fundraiser at Lake George arcade

LAKE GEORGE - When dozens of local students seek to be a Guitar Hero at Fun World arcade, they'll also be "Skateboard heroes simultaneously, Fun World owner and village Mayor Robert Blais said this week.

Friday, Fun World is hosting a fundraiser which includes Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution competitions, and proceeds from these and other arcade activities will go to support Lake George's effort to construct a skateboard park, Blais said.

The contests and public fundraiser will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Fun World arcade on Canada St. All proceeds will be directed towards the Village and Town governments' initiative to create a year-round skateboard park.

Adult members of the community and local students have volunteered to match the proceeds up to a $10,000 contribution. The initial interest in the park was generated by a meeting headed by Bill Toscano, Act for Youth Coordinator and carried forward by Blais.

Committees have been chosen to select a site and design for the skateboard park, and to conduct fundraisers for the project.

At Friday's fundraiser, other contests will be held as well including: Skee-Ball, Big Buck Hunter and NASCAR racing video challenges. Free refreshments will also be available to the participants at 5 p.m.

Those with questions, contact Blais at 668-5771, ext. 25.
