Mountainside athletes recognized

SCHROON LAKE - Mountainside Christian Academy sports teams were honored for their athletic effort and ability at the sports banquet recently.

Each coach recognized his or her team as a whole and then rewarded specific individuals according to their accomplishments. Because of having completed their final year of high school athleticism, the achievements of each senior were also acknowledged. Each athlete's family prepared a dessert to share at the banquet.

Coaches were also recognized for their volunteer time and effort in dedication to enriching the lives of the students and building competitive teams. Gifts were given to the coaches to show appreciation - Dawn Wayson coached volleyball; Butch Davis coached soccer; David Lamos coached boys junior varsity basketball; Rick Dumoulin and Marshall Wicks coached girls basketball; and Paul Mieras coached boys varsity basketball.

Individual achievement awards were given to the following students:

Volleyball: most improved - Sara Cruickshank; MVP - Nicole Peterson; Christian character - Jessie Herrmann; best server - Bethany Herrmann.

Soccer: most improved - Joe Wilson; best defense - Hank Henson; MVP - Duncan Sabatini; Christian character - John Andryuk.

Girls basketball: most improved - Gabe Harvey; best defense - Bethany Herrmann; MVP - Beth Sewall; Christian character - Jessie Herrmann.

Junior varsity boys basketball: most improved - Cole McNally; best defense - Brandon Mieras; MVP - Duncan Sabatini; Christian character - John Andryuk.

Boys varsity basketball: most improved - Uriah Harvey; best defense - Carl Sabatini; MVP - Kevin Fortier; Christian character - John Andryuk.
