Two teens arrested after bomb scare

LAKE PLACID - Village police made the most of their visit to Lake Placid Middle-High School April 24, charging two students with separate crimes.

Following an investigation into a falsely reported bomb threat called into both the middle-high school and elementary school April 24, Lake Placid Village Police arrested a 13-year-old male from Wilmington April 29, charging him with falsely reporting an incident. The youth was released with a juvenile appearance ticket to appear with Essex County Probation at a later date.

While conducting a drug search of Lake Placid Middle-High School that same day with a K-9 unit, police discovered marijuana in a student's locker. The discovery led to the arrest of a 16-year-old male for unlawful possession of marijuana on April 28. He was ticketed and given notice to appear in village court at a later date.

Village of Lake Placid police Sgt. Carol Hayes said the routine drug search had been planned weeks in advance and just happened to coincide with the day of the bomb threat.
