Patriot bats overpower NAC

AU SABLE FORKS - AuSable Valley scored 10 runs in the fifth inning on their way to a dominant 13-3 victory over Northern Adirondack in CVAC baseball May 1.

Alex LaFountain went the distance on the mound for the Patriots, tossing 10 strikeouts with no walks for the win.

Bobcats pitcher Nick Gero allowed six hits through the first four innings, but managed to hold AuSable Valley to a 3-2 lead. A triple by Ryan Harris and a single by Bryant Fortin each drove in runs for NAC.

"Tommy Loreman had some big hits early in the game for us," said Patriots head coach Randy Douglas. "In the last game we hit a bunch of them right at the guy, but today it was down the holes."

The Patriots found their groove in the fifth as Ricky Lee led off with a single. Gero walked T.J. Burl before giving up a long double into left-center by Loreman. Eric Rock then hit one to the left field fence for another RBI double.

With two outs, Jordan Bezio reached first base on an error. A.J. Gordon then connected on an infield home run down the first-base line. Gero gave up two walks and four hits more before the Bobcats were able to end the inning.

The win gave the Patriots a 3-2 record for the season.

"We had two tough losses this week," said Douglas, "but this was a good rebound."
