Game Night to benefit Neighborhood House

AU SABLE FORKS - An fundraiser event in Au Sable Forks promises to provide an evening of entertainment while benefitting a cornerstone organization in the community.

Game Night is scheduled for May 16 at American Legion Post 504. The doors open at 6 p.m. with popular table games, cash bar, and hors d'oeuvres.

The event benefits the Keene Valley Neighborhood House, an assisted living home that many recognize as an important asset to Keene, Jay, and other local towns.

"The staff that work there are very, very considerate of the people," said Legion Auxiliary member Cindy Douglas, who is helping to organize the event. "They do the extra things that other places won't do."

For a $10 minimum donation, adults young and old can participate and take a chance at winning some rather entertaining prizes.

Guests can choose to play a wide variety of games, including Yahtzee, Scrabble, Rummy, Bunko, Trivia, and more. Winners of each game will get to choose from one of more than 50 prizes available, including gift certificates, golf passes, wine, and many other local, hand-made gifts.

"There's no gambling involved at all," stressed Beth Davis, KVNH development coordinator. "It's all just for prizes and fun."

In addition, there will be a framed painting from Black Brook Artworks available as a grand door prize. Artist Patty Tender, whose sister, Debbie Rhino, works at KVNH, donated the painting.

"Everybody has a chance to win it," said Davis.

Legion Auxiliary member Judy Williams said the Legion was happy to donate the use of their facility for such a worthy fundraiser.

Douglas remembered how, as a hospital, the Neighborhood House provided treatment for many in the Au Sable Forks region.

"A lot of people were born there," she said.

Today, as the nearest assisted living home for the elderly, KVNH provides local care for many people as well as place of employment for many AuSable Forks residents.

"It's a nice place for when people reach that age in their life," Douglas said.
