SARANAC LAKE - Entry forms are now available for the the Adirondack Watershed Alliance's first canoe and kayak race of the season.
'Round the Mountain, 10.5-mile canoe and kayak race in Saranac Lake, kicks off at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16.
Entry forms and race details are available on the Web at www.macscanoe.com.
This 10.5-mile race starts at Ampersand Bay Resort on Lower Saranac Lake and finishes on Lake Flower in Riverfront Park. The course takes paddlers up Lower Saranac Lake, down the Saranac River, and through Oseetah Lake on the way around Dewey Mountain. When traveling by car, the race ends just minutes away from the start line.
Last year's event drew nearly 80 boats, including canoes, kayaks, guideboats and eight-person voyageur canoes. Paddlers compete in categories determined by their boats, ages and genders. For beginners, 'Round the Mountain will feature an open touring class. This non-competitive category is open to anyone. It is geared toward beginners and paddlers who are more focused on enjoying the event than winning an award.
'Round the Mountain is the first of four races organized by AWA. The entry fee is $25 per paddler, or $20 for AWA members. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. at Ampersand Bay.
