CHAZY - When Lindsay LaValley woke up last Sunday morning, it was a morning unlike any other she has experienced.
The Chazy Central Rural School junior had been sleeping toward the end of the school's after-prom party when she awoke in time for her name to be drawn as the winner of the party's top prize - a 2001 Chevy Impala.
"I woke up 10 minutes before [the drawing] so I was kind of a little dazed," said LaValley. "I didn't expect to win it at all, so I was definitely surprised."
Every junior who attended last Saturday's overnight event who stayed until the end was be eligible to win the used car, donated by Parker Chevrolet Pontiac Inc. of Champlain.
Though she walked away the lucky winner, LaValley said she went to the after-prom party for all the activities planned for the event.
"I played air volleyball for about an hour and a half. That was pretty awesome," she said. "Then, I got a massage. That put me to sleep, but it felt really good."
LaValley said she was happy the school hosted the event, now in its second year, which gives students a safe alternative to other after-prom activities.
"I feel that the classes under us would have a lot of fun [with the after-prom party], so I'd like to see it keep going," she said.
As for her plans for the car, LaValley already owns her own car and is looking to give or sell the car to one of her fellow juniors.
"I feel like the car belongs to someone in our grade," she said.
