When you walk into Reincarnation Upscale Resale on River Street in Rutland City, you are pleasantly surprised. There are pretty colors in a subdued hue and fabulous displays of clothes, pictures and knickknacks. It smells nice and the customer service that greets you at the door surpasses other stores. There is complementary tea and coffee, weekly treasure hunts (discounts) and constantly changing inventory. This boutique atmosphere adds to the hospitality that makes this consignment store unique.
Owner Traci Pena explained, "I had always envisioned my store to be like the old time dress shop, a community gathering place, a place you just stop by to say hello. Of course I want people to buy something but you might not always find something that you can't live without and that's ok too - you will the next time!"
Reincarnation Upscale Resale opened on February 28, 2009 after making the lifelong dream come true for Owner Traci Pena. There is only one other consignment store in Rutland and owning and operating one has been a dream of Traci's for approximately 15 years. The timing was just right for her in 2009. "I actually had the name Fabulous Finds in mind for many years. It wasn't until a friend named Tom, who is from New Mexico, visited this past November and saw the space and had a vision about 'reincarnation' for the name. It just seemed to fit for where I am at in my life and it felt right."
The River Street location, although seemingly out of sight, appears to be working great for this new consignment store. "My type of business is a destination type of business, so location was not my first priority so to speak. I did want a highly visible location and with display windows. I initially thought about being downtown, but once I started looking into actual spaces and rents, leases-I soon realized that I would never make any money having to pay the big city rent prices, plus other expenses. When my current space become available for rent, I just knew that was the space for me. It's excellent for high traffic, it has fabulous windows, my landlords are wonderful and whole-heartedly support my idea and I have the option to purchase the entire building, if I decide to go that route. It was just another one of the pieces that fell into place with little or no effort."
