Jenkins Jazz Trip set for North Creek concert

NORTH CREEK - Upper Hudson Musical Arts will present the Tony Jenkins Jazz Trip at 7:30 p.m. Saturday May 9 at the Tannery Pond Community Center. The group consists of Tony Jenkins on guitar, Frank Conti on saxophone, Colin MacInnis on saxophone and piano, Greg Brown on string bass ; and Mike Fortune, drums. The quintet will lead the listener on a tour of jazz from New Orleans to Kansas City, and from Chicago to New York City.

A self-taught musician, Tony Jenkins held his first guitar at the age of 13.Growing up in Newark, N.J. Jenkins played for "Port Authority "in the early 1970s, becoming a staple on the local music scene, performing at such clubs as the Cotton Club and Blue Note Jazz Club. He has performed with "The Crests."

Frank Conti, is a retired band director from Johnsburg Central School and a former standout in the Army Band. He has performed with Bob Hope, Robert Goulet, the Coasters, Freddy Cannon, and the Tommy Dorsey Band.

Colin MacInnis has performed at Lincoln Center, Quebec City Jazz Festival, Birdland, and throughout the U.S. and Canada. He has played with Bill Cosby, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, David Brenner, Lew Soloff, and Milt Jackson. He is currently the Director of Bands at North Warren Central School.

Bassist Greg Brown was for years a street musician in New York before coming to the Glens Falls area. He currently performs with Ray Alexander at the Sagamore Hotel, as well as The Tony Jenkins Jazz Trip. He is sought after as a bass player in the New York City jazz scene as well as locally.

Mike Fortune grew up in upstate New York has studied and performed with a variety of acclaimed musicians. He was a founder of the group Microtonacity. Also, Fortune has performed with noted jazz groups including The Sun Ra Arkestra, playing at famed venues including The Blue Note, The Knitting Factory, and Tribes.
