Ti Middle School Week slated

TICONDEROGA - Ticonderoga Middle School has invited the community to join in its celebration of Middle School Week April 6-9.

Each year the Ticonderoga Middle School designates one week for Middle School Week and sponsors special events.

There will be a career fair 8-10:30 a.m. in the school cafetorium and a book fair 8:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the library on Tuesday, April 7.

On Wednesday, April 8, the book fair will continued with expanded hours of 8:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. There will also be a fifth grade parents night and a sixth grade parents night, both at 6:30 p.m.

Highlighting the week will be the annual sixth grade science fair Wednesday 7-8:30 p.m. in the cafetorium.

The projects have changed from research-based projects to inquiry-based projects. Teacher James Burgey advised his students to develop a question about their topic and devise a hypothesis in order to answer that question. The project is their attempt to test their hypothesis. The entire process focuses on the Scientific Method which scientists use to solve problems.

The fair will feature 31 projects. Each science project consists of a centerpiece, supporting materials, and a short oral speech.

Research for the projects is completed in the library with Mary Lavarnway and Tina Russell.

Some examples of the projects in this year's science fair include - Do different colored lights affect plant growth? The environmental effects of household cleaners. Do energy drinks raise your blood pressure? Does Vitamin E reduce the effects of aging?

Concluding the week will be the science fair for elementary students 8:15 - 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 9.
