"It's so hard when they take your driving privileges away," Emerson said. "George picks me up every morning and takes me to the meal site and then he brings me home."
Green said on any given day he delivers meals to up to 10 homes in Long Lake and gives rides to as many as five others, many of whom a decade or more his junior.
Last year, Green was honored by the New York State Legislature, the Hamilton/Warren County Office of the Aging and the town of Long Lake for his lifetime of service.
"What the Office of the Aging and people like George do is a total necessity for any community," Wallace said. "If we don't support the elderly then what are we as a people?"
When further probed for information, Green's humble roots were displayed.
"I am not the story here," he said.
