As Time Goes By

Does anyone know the history behind these once beautiful barns located on the corner of Austin Pond Road and State Route 28 in the Town of Johnsburg?

They are an example of the many wonderful old barns in this area that are deteriorating and falling down. Who first built them? What interesting story lies behind them?

The Johnsburg Historical Society (JHS) is gathering information on many buildings and sites in town as part of an exhibit which will be displayed at the Widlund Gallery, Tannery Pond Community Center, in September this year. This exhibit will be assembled in response to the many comments about Glenn Pearsall's recent book, "Echoes In These Mountains" which has stimulated a great interest in the history of our town.

JHS's mission is to preserve this history, but they need the help of many citizens who remember our past.

If you have any information about the barns, contact Sally Heidrich at 251-2733 or Kathy Maiorana at 251-0144
