Green Up Vermont announced winners that took part in the annual writing and student poster design contest for Green Up Day 2009. Posters distributed statewide in April help promote participation in Green Up Day the first Saturday in May, May 2.
Winners were honored at Green Up's Annual Awards Banquet on March 27, at the Capitol Plaza in Montpelier.
Green Up Day, May 2, marks the 39th year of Vermont's unique tradition of thousands of volunteers annually cleaning up their communities' roadsides, public places and waterways. Vermont was the first state in the nation to designate a special day for cleaning the entire state.
Green Up Vermont is the not-for-profit organization responsible for continuing Vermont's Green Up tradition. The success of Green Up depends on volunteers who make the clean up happen and on financial contributions from the public and private sector.
