Woman accused of counterfeiting

TICONDEROGA - A Ticonderoga woman was arrested after she allegedly used several fake $10 bills to buy merchandise at stores at Aviation Mall in Queensbury March 10, police said.

Tasia L. Osier, 23, was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a felony, after police were called to the mall around 8:30 p.m. when two stores noticed they had just received fake bills, police said.

Officers from the New York State Police and Warren County Sheriff's Office responded and found the woman in the mall and arrested her without incident.

Osier was also found to have about $3,000 worth of real money with her, and police are working to figure out whether that cash was the proceeds from having used fake money at other businesses to make transactions.

Police said Osier is accused of using the fake bills to buy items at Victoria's Secret and Bon Ton. Mall officials notified merchants of the incident through an electronic alert system, which helped locate Osier, police said.

Osier was arraigned in Queensbury Town Court and released on her own recognizance.
