SCHROON LAKE - A rock-n-roll icon will appear on stage at Schroon Lake Central School...kinda.
Students will present the play Bye Bye Birdie Friday and Saturday, March 27 and 28, at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.
Bye Bye Birdie is the musical tale of an Elvis-esque performer, Conrad Birdie.
The play will be directed by Anita Masiello and Wendy Sargent.
Conrad Birdie has problems. His manager, Albert, is facing financial ruin and Birdie has received a draft notice from the military.
Albert plans a farewell party for Birdie on The Ed Sullivan Show, where one lucky fan will have a chance to kiss the singing sensation. Kim Macafee from Sweet Apple wins the contest, but her boyfriend is less-than-thrilled.
"Our drama students have been working hard to bring this delightful show to stage," Sargent said. "Full of energetic and upbeat music, lively dance and comedy, this is a show you won't want to miss."
Tony Kostecki will be the musical accompanist.
Dennis Root and Cherie Subra are designing and building sets. Sargent will do costumes.
