Without either of these components, the pulse of the communities which I am privileged to cover will never be attained.
Of equal importance, I am asking you, the readership, to play an active role as well.
If I screw something up, write a letter to the editor. If there is an issue- local, national, international- which inspires you, write a letter.
I envision the NE as a sounding board for anyone so impassioned as to accumulate their ideas in writing and 'put themselves out there.' Who knows, one letter may spur several others the next week. Eureka- we have discourse!
All I ask is that all letters maintain a level of respect to everyone involved and fall within the most liberal limits of journalistic ethics. In other words, no slander please.
Without this discourse, communities can stall- remaining mired in misunderstanding of opposing concepts and paradigms. Combatting this is a primary function of a community newspaper and it is my goal to promote conversation in anyway possible.
It is my goal to contribute something to this region, but I can't do it alone. With your help we just may do something very special in one of the grandest ecosystems on the continent.
