ECH welcomes new doctor

ELIZABETHTOWN - Elizabethtown Community Hospital has announced the arrival of a new physician to its medical staff: Pasqualino Caputo, M.D.

Caputo comes to ECH from Okeechobee County Health Department in Okeechobee, Florida, where he held a family practice. He received his medical education from the University of Queensland, in Queensland Australia, and did post graduate training and residency at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, New York and Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Caputo is board certified in both family medicine and sports medicine. He joins Dr. Rob DeMuro and Dr. Harry Davis at the Elizabethtown Community Health Center, a facility devoted to both of his major specialties.

"Dr. Caputo brings to the hospital a strong primary care training augmented by a fellowship in sports medicine that will help us to serve a larger population of the community," stated DeMuro, ECH's Medical Director.

With such focus on the non-operational treatment of sports-related injuries, Caputo explained that his background translates to patients of all ages.

"It really is a vast spectrum of all ages and ability levels," he said. "Whether it's a marathoner or an older person trying to improve their medical condition by briskly walking."

Caputo will also travel to Champlain Valley Physicians hospital one day a week with to work with orthopedist Dr. Phillip Volk.

"We want to implement a multi-disciplinary sports medicine program in the Plattsburgh area," explained Caputo. "There will be a branch of that in Elizabethtown as well."

"We are all very excited about developing a unique program between ECH and CVPH for the many activity-related injuries and orthopedic ailments that we see," said DeMuro.

Caputo said he was attracted to Elizabethtown because of its proximity to Lake Placid, a hub of sporting activity throughout the year. Also, he looks forward to enjoying the outdoor experiences and laid-back lifestyle that living in the Adirondacks has to offer.

"It's very nice to be able to provide these services in a very enjoyable area of New York State," he said.
