Wolk receives education excellence award

The New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) presented Castleton State College President David S. Wolk with the 2009 Eleanor M. McMahon Award for Lifetime Achievement at its Higher Education Excellence Awards dinner last week in Boston. The award is one of four regional awards presented annually and is named for the late Rhode Island higher education commissioner, scholar and educator.

NEBHE President and CEO Michael K. Thomas said about the honoree: "President Wolk has been at the helm of Castleton State College since 2001 and has accomplished much, including expanding the college's commitment to civic engagement and service learning. His commitment to Vermont's students spans his professional life from his time as a teacher and principal in the public schools to his tenure as a state senator and chief of policy..."

Wolk is currently president of the North Atlantic Conference and a member of the Vermont Campus Compact, the Nellie Mae Education Foundation and the Vermont Higher Education Funding Commission.
