West Rutland agency receives $5,000 gift

Chittenden Bank presented $5,000 to West Rutland's NeighborWorks of Western Vermont for its Emergency Shelter Program.

"We are seeing a staggering rise in requests for assistance," said Ludy Biddle of NWWVT, "In 2008 we were able to assist only 32 percent of families -nearly all of them with children, who needed our emergency services" said Biddle, who accepted the grant on behalf of NWWVT last month at the NWWVT office on Marble Street in West Rutland.

For 14 years NeighborWorks has provided grants and financial counseling services to members of our community who are in danger of losing their homes because of delinquent rent or mortgage payments, or unpaid utility bills.
