Three cheers for local cheerleaders!

Castleton State College hosted the third annual Green Mountain Invitational cheerleading competition last week in the Glennbrook Gym. Excitement permeated the gym with spirit and a heightened awareness of the talent, synchronization, and poise of each team, especially with the onset of the music.

D.J. Vince Allo of Phat Kat Productions entertained everyone with not only each team's choice of music but also a wide array of current and past popular songs.

Peak Minis and Peak Youths Level 1 All Stars, BFA St. Albans Jr. Varsity, Fair Haven Union High School, Peak Juniors Level 2 All Stars, Otter Valley Varsity, Cheer Magic Level 2 All Stars, Poultney High School Varsity, Rutland Junior High, Cheer Magic Level 3 All Stars, BFA St. Albans Jr. High, Cheer Magic Level 3 All Stars, BFA St. Albans Jr. High, Mt. Abraham Varsity, Georgia Middle School, Green Mt. Union High School, Franklin Middle School, Cape All Stars Level 5, Richford Varsity, BFA Fairfax, South Burlington, Vergennes Varsity, BFA St. Albans Varsity, Milton Varsity, Franklin Varsity, Rutland High School, and BFA St. Albans performing hip hop and jazz dances.

Preliminary judging continued until the commencement. Top gun competition included jumps, tumbling, and junior, elite, and coed stunts followed with the presentation of the trophies and awards. The issuing of the awards went all too quickly and filled the air with victory for not only teams but individuals also.

The overall top five winners were champions Rutland High School, Franklin 2nd , Cheer Magic level 3 - 3rd; Poultney 4th ; and Vergennes 5th.

Coach of the year went to Heather Hurd of Fair Haven Union High School, who has transitioned from a team of as few as five to as many as ten having tried all different routines and stunts.

Cheerleaders of the year included Sara Alexander, Fair Haven Union High School, and Staci Jedlick, Poultney High School.
