Public-school program gets high marks

Vermont's Child Development Division announced last week that Rutland Public School Northwest Tapestry Program, a licensed afterschool program coordinated by Dianna Pfenning, has received five stars in Vermont's Step Ahead Recognition System (STARS) for child care, preschool and afterschool programs.

It joins the other Rutland Tapestry programs in participating in STARS at the five-star level.

The Tapestry Programs are fully collaborative with the Rutland public schools and provide a place for children beyond the traditional school hours and in the summer. The program provides learning opportunities, multicultural and enrichment experiences in a climate of mutual respect and dignity for all children from Kindergarten to the eighth grade. The programs are further enriched by the longevity of the teachers and staff.

Tapestry weaves together a multitude of community resources that support the needs of families. The programs are pleased to have their strong work recognized by their NAA accreditation and STARS participation.

STARS is Vermont's quality rating system for child care, preschool, and afterschool programs. The STARS program is a public-private partnership created and led by the Child Development Division of the Vermont Department for Children and Families.
