Scarborough plans return to Airborne Speedway

SOUTH PLATTSBURGH - Don Scarborough, the "Brandon Bandit" has announced plans to return to weekly competition and vie for the Ernie's Tools Modified title at Airborne Speedway. The Brandon, Vt., driver last raced regularly at Airborne in 2006 and has five career wins on the Plattsburgh half-mile.

"I've always enjoyed racing at Airborne," Scarborough said. "I had a good season going in 2006, but I destroyed a car there late in the summer and that was quite a financial setback at the time. Lately, I've been racing at dirt tracks, which is how I started."

Scarborough will drive a Bicknell chassis car adapted for asphalt racing.

"I know about the new paving job that coming up and it sounds like it will make for a lot of side by side racing, which will be good for the fans," Scarborough said. "I know there are quite a few fans from down in my neck of the woods that have been going up there and enjoying the racing."

Bicknell Racing Products and G Bowen Excavating of Castleton, Vt. will help sponsor Scarborough's team.

"I'd be glad to talk with anyone from the Plattsburgh/Burlington area about my plans and the possibility of sponsorship," he said. "I'm in the book."

Airborne Speedway will begin its 58th season Sunday, May 2. Other events to follow include Airborne hosting the American Canadian Tour Furniture World Spring Green 100 Saturday, May 9, and the inaugural Super DIRTcar Big Block Modified series race Sunday, June 7.
