New store adds touch-of-class to resale business

A new Rutland business, Reincarnation Upscale Resale and Fabulous Finds, located at 86 River St., opened its doors to customers for the first time last week.

On hand for the store's opening was Chris Harriman of the local U.S. Small Business Administration office, Rutland Alderman William Notte, Melissa Warrander of Voc Rehab, Rutland Mayor Christopher Louras, and Tom Macaulay of the Rutland Redevelopment Authority. These officials assisted owner and entrepreuneur Traci Pena with the tradition of cutting the ribbon while eager customers cheered them on.

Pena's new store is part of an unusual growth trend that is sweeping the nation: Consignment stores may have been around for decades, but they remain a well-kept secret-especially when it comes to high-end, designer bargain hunting.

This reporter discovered the dirty little secret about "thrift shops" or used-clothing shops: there are a number of well-to-do, full- and part-time residents of this area who frequent local thrift shops to find bargains and fine used clothes.

Going "green" is becoming a wildly popular trend, too, especially among younger people-thus, secondhand shops dovetail nicely with the expanding eco movement. Welcome to the Green Mountain State where the emphasis is on the word green.

"It's a good way to recycle, reuse and reincarnate," Traci Pena said in a recent news announcement about her business. "You can show your commitment to using fewer resources and reducing your carbon footprint while saving money."

All in all, Traci Pena has a very creative business concept. And when times are tough like now, even tough guys like me go shopping for bargains.

Check it Out: Traci Pena is currently taking consignments on many items. For more details, call her at 802-282-4464. You can also visit the Reincarnation Upscale Resale and Fabulous Finds website at www.reincarnationconsignment.biz.
