Sentinels play for section title; Wildcats eliminate Moriah

Ticonderoga faced Seton Catholic in the Section VII Class C girls basketball tournament championship game.

The game was played Friday, March 6, at 5:45 p.m. at SUNY-Plattsburgh.

The Sentinels reached the title tilt by topping Lake Placid, 41-26, in the semifinals Feb. 27.

Ti led from the start, holding a 22-14 advantage at the half.

Julie Thompson scored 15 points for the Ticonderogans.

Jocelyn Barber had 11 points and Carly Tubbs added eight for the winners.

Seton Catholic advanced to the championship game with a 53-15 rout of Northern Adirondack Feb. 27.

Renee Egan sparked the Knights with 16 points.

Trista Harris and Ariel Masten each scored nine for Seton Catholic.

Schroon Lake 39,

Moriah 30

Schroon Lake beat Moriah, 39-30, to advance to the semifinals of the Section VII Class D girls basketball tournament Feb. 27.

The Wildcats are the two-time defending section champs.

Trailing, 16-15, at the half, Schroon Lake went on a 14-3 run to start the third period. Once the 'Cats had the lead, they never trailed again.

Jocelyn Bowen scored 16 of her game-high 17 points in the second half to spark the winners.

Emily Whitney played a key role for Schroon on defense in the third period as Moriah was held scoreless until Sherri Guffey sank a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Ashley Whitty chipped in with 13 points for the Wildcats.

Kayla Gagnon and Guffey each scored seven points for Moriah.

In other semifinal games, Indian Lake/Long Lake edged Elizbaethtown-Lewis, 45-43; Westport beat Chazy, 46-27; and Willsboro topped Bolton, 55-27.
