LAKE PLACID - The Adirondack Community Trust is accepting applications for a number of scholarships established to benefit students from the region.
The Charles B. Decker Memorial Scholarship awards grants between $500-$2,000 to graduating high school students from the Tri-Lakes or Watertown area, college students studying journalism and to professional journalists interested in continuing education or appropriate projects. Scholarship recipients must have a tangible interest in journalism, the ability to handle college work and financial need to a degree that further education cannot be undertaken without financial assistance. Grants are made for up to one year and recipients may reapply annually.
The Dr. U. R. Plante Medical Scholarship awards an annual $10,000 scholarship to a student attending medical school, who has lived in either the Adirondack Park, or Clinton, Franklin, Essex, Hamilton or St. Lawrence counties for at least two years. Grants are restricted to students studying to obtain an MD and are willing to return to the North Country or another rural area to practice medicine for two years.
The Sean McCullough Memorial Scholarship was established in 2005 in honor of Sean McCullough, a Plattsburgh High School student who died tragically May 14, 2005. This year, a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from Clinton or Essex counties with strong academic skills and competitive spirit who wishes to continue their education at the college level. The candidate must be a member of the track team and will be nominated by his or her track coach for their leadership and dedication to the team.
The Essex County Bar Association Scholarship was established in 2005 by the Essex County Bar Association in an effort to support the next generation of law professionals in Essex County. Any full-time residents who are attending an accredited law school in the U.S. shall be eligible to apply for this $500 annual scholarship. Recipients of this award may reapply annually.
