Brook Noble returns to BluSeed Studios

SARANAC LAKE - BluSeed Studios Inc. welcomes Brooke Noble as its newest artist-in-residence. Noble, who returns to BluSeed's ceramic studio after two prior residencies in 2003 and 2004, will manage the studio's general operations, working with other BluSeed ceramic instructors, conducting classes, and assisting students as needed.

Noble is no stranger to the area or to BluSeed Studios. After earning a degree in fine arts at Syracuse University and her master's at Southern Illinois University, she returns to Saranac Lake to make it her permanent home.

With their thought-provoking imagery and fully functional styling, her pieces have been shown nationally at more than 53 galleries, and may currently be seen locally at Lake Placid's V Gallery. Noble has taught ceramics since 2001 and is excited to work with the local community and share her knowledge of clay.

In March, Noble will begin offering five-session workshops in tile building, unique pot decorating and variations on vessel shapes. The class will include making handmade tiles and plaster press molds, and runs five Saturdays, March 7, 14, 21, 28 and April 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The fee, which includes all materials, is $160.

Students will focus on creating original tiles with a high-relief dimensional pattern and learn how to make multiple tiles using simple press molds. Participants will walk away from the class with one-of-a-kind tiles that may be used for a variety of household projects, including fireplaces, backsplashes and wall hangings.

Class size is limited to ensure individual instruction. To register or for more information, call BluSeed Studios, located at 17 Cedar St., at 891-3799 or visit www.bluseedstudios.org.
