Colleges team up for language learning

POULTNEY-Green Mountain College will work with Middlebury College this year in a language learning program on the Poultney campus. Middlebury is a longtime leader in full immersion language studies and cultural education, established an affiliation with the Monterey Institute of International Studies in 2005.

The Monterey Institute, now in its 50th year, is well known for its curriculum in language teaching, translation and interpretation, and business and global policy. Together, the two institutions bring their combined expertise in language programs to middle and high school students through the Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy.

In the month-long program, GMC/MMLA students will choose Arabic, Chinese, French or Spanish at various levels. Each language group lives in a language-specific college residence accompanied by bilingual residential counselors and teaching faculty. Over 100 faculty and staff members will be on GMC's Poultney campus to teach 400 students.
