Tribal storyteller in Vergennes June 27

The Vergennes Opera House will present its Lake Champlain Storytellers' Series, a six-month program celebrating the vibrant history and culture of the Lake Champlain region. The series celebrates the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain's arrival in the region.

Roger Longtoe Sheehan, a member of the ELNU Abenaki tribe, comes to the Opera House on Saturday, June 27, at 2 p.m.

An accomplished singer, storyteller, native historian and speaker on the Wabanaki culture from pre-contact to the present, Longtoe Sheehan has been learning and practicing the skills and arts of his ancestors since he was a child. In addition to preserving and sharing his native traditions, he creates fine native arts and fashions tattoos the old-fashioned way-without electricity.
