SARANAC LAKE - Independence Day activities in Saranac Lake kick off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, with the Saranac Lake Village Market in Riverside Park, followed at 1 p.m. by the second annual Patriotic Boat Parade and will conclude with a concert in the park as well as the annual firework displays.
At 1 p.m. on Saturday, boaters, including kayakers and canoeists, are invited to join in the Patriotic Boat Parade to be held on Lake Flower. Mayor Thomas Michael has agreed to judge the event and the winner and runner up will each receive a trophy for their efforts in bringing the best patriotic boat.
"Boats will assemble at 12:30 p.m. behind a lead boat and proceed along a proscribed route to the Riverside Park's public boat decks where judging will take place," said parade organizer Barbara Wells. Two slips at the municipal boat docks will be reserved so that the parade winners can receive their trophy.
Boat registration, entry numbers and a parade route map can be picked up at the Chamber offices, located at 39 Main Street. Registration fee for the boat parade is $5.
Then, at 7 p.m., bring out your lawn chair for a free concert in the park, courtesy of Curtis Lumber. This year's featured act is the Dust Bunnies.
The concert will be followed at dusk with the annual Independence Day Firework Display, sponsored by the Village of Saranac Lake. They will be launched, as in years past, from theNew York State Boat Launch, adjacent to Riverside Park. Bring out the family for an event that will be memorable for years to come!
