Volunteers clean up LaChute River

TICONDEROGA - A team of local volunteers came together recently to clear the LaChute River area of debris to ensure safe travel for small boat traffic to-and-from Lake Champlain.

George Sperry, Bob Dedrick, Jerry Cooper and Jim DiCiccio along with Capt. George Sicard and his crew spent six hours working on the LaChute.

Their greatest complication was a giant snag located immediately south of the Montcalm bridge. Unfortunately they were unable to the complete removal of the snag and mark it because of recent rains and high fast moving water.

This project was funded by PRIDE of Ticonderoga which received a grant from the Lake Champlain Basin program.

Kristi Mars and CYC-Ticonderoga, Putnam and Hague Connecting Youth and Communities is planning a follow-up clean-up project.
