PERU - The family of the late Francis "Al" Dubuque will hold their second benefit in memory of the former Plattsburgh resident, with proceeds to benefit the CVPH Fitzpatrick Cancer Center Memorial Fund.
Murphy's Tavern, 225 State Route 22B, Peru, will host a motorcycle ride and dart tournament next Saturday, Aug. 1. The benefit is one Dubuque's daughter, Stephanie Blair, hopes will have an overwhelming turnout.
"We started this because the memorial fund goes for training of the staff at the cancer center and goes toward equipment and helping with covering patients' medication and co-pays and those sorts of things," said Blair.
Dubuque received services from the center during his own battle with cancer, which he ultimately lost in February 2006. After, the family's first benefit was held and it wasn't until this year they were able to organize another in memory of Dubuque.
"This is something I wanted to do annually, but just because of certain circumstances, I wasn't able to do it the last couple years," said Blair. "I'm hoping it's something we can do every year."
Next Saturday's event will begin with registration for the motorcycle ride at 11 a.m., with the ride leaving Murphy's at 12 p.m. Registration for the dart tournament will be held from 12-1 p.m., with the tournament beginning at 1:30 p.m. Music will be provided by the Denim Band and Denim Entertainment.
Raffles, 50/50 drawings and food will help round out the event.
