Family fun night headlines area events

All local families with children of any age can take advantage of a free family fun night at the Glens Falls YMCA Fri. Feb. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. The YMCA officials ask that folks call head at 793-3878 and tell them the ages of their children, so the staff can arrange to have fun activities planned for each age group. Also, there are activities for adults to enjoy.

There are the old standbys such as games, crafts and swimming as well as added new adventures. Turn off the television for an evening and take a trip to "The Y!"

The Thurman Quilting Group meets 6:30 p.m. Fri. Feb. 6 at the town hall. Everyone is welcome to join this social and fun sewing group. For information, call Myra at 623-2633.

The Take off Pounds Sensibly program in Thurman, held on Thursdays at the town hall, has changed its hours from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Anyone who would like to join this weight watching group to lose a few pounds before swimming weather, can stop by any meeting or call Jane at 696-2766 for more information.

The Gleaning food distribution is set for the Thurman Town Hall Tues. Feb. 3 at 11 am. This free food program is open to all Thurman residents.

Share your memories of bygone days

What did you do in the "Good Ol' Days?" Did you go to the little country store by horse and buggy or did you walk? Did you carry a packbasket? Were you snowed in and found you had to wear snowshoes to get out?

All our memories are now history and the John Thurman Historical Society is looking for tidbits or stories before they become forgotten. Were you a "bad" kid at the one-room schoolhouse? Did you have to carry pails of water from a well to provide water for your bath?
