Debut sledding event proves popular

CHESTERTOWN - About 200 local children attended a first-ever sledding event held Jan. 18 at Dynamite Hill Recreation Area by the Chester-Horicon Youth Commission.

Titled "Take over the Hill," the event featured a night of sledding under the lights, Children and their parents enjoyed the debut event, Youth Director Naicole Howe said this week.

"During the event, Dynamitaae Hill came to life!" she said.

For the sledding fest, the tow rope was shut down so the children could be towed back up the hill via snowmobiles.

That's not the only special treatment they received. Children also enjoyed warming up to a bonfire.

Impressed with the turnout, Howe said this would be the first of many "Take over the Hill" nights offered by the Commission.

"Not once did I ever dream so many families would come out in the cold," she said.
