CHAZY - The doors of the Plattsburgh Health Center in the hamlet of Chazy have closed.
The last day of business for the practice's State Route 9 location was Jan. 29, with services now being offered only at their State Route 3 office in the town of Plattsburgh.
"Basically, we're just consolidating our resources in order to provide better service for our patients," said practice manager Amanda Hartmann, who added there has been a decline in the number of people utilizing services in Chazy. "It's an unfortunate thing. We'd love to be able to offer the service, but it does come down to numbers in order to support a second location."
The patient caseload and necessary paperwork for the Chazy location - which has been open for nearly 10 years, said Hartmann - have been transferred to the Plattsburgh office, where walk-in and same-day appointments will still be made available. The Plattsburgh office is also open six days a week, compared to the four the Chazy location was open, she said, offering extended hours for patients.
"We are very sorry to see them go," Chazy Town Supervisor Staub G. Spiegel said in a statement. "This was a very convenient location for our residents and especially our senior members with the close proximity to our hamlets for their health care needs."
"Hopefully, we can attract another health care facility provider in the very near future," he added.
Hartmann stated there is always a possibility services could return to Chazy, if the demand was there and it was economically-feasible to again open a second location.
