Warrensburg wrestlers pin five in tournament action

At 112 pounds, Whitehall's John Diekel, who has a 16-6 record, decisioned Abby Roth, 12-3 in a hard-fought match.

At 103, eighth-grade sensation Tyrell White of Whitehall, who has a 20-2 record this season, won by forfeit.

Railroader Coach Bob Diekel said both Whitehall and Warrensburg had lineups with talented, accomplished wrestlers scattered among weight classes.

"Both teams came out with determination and fire," he said. "These were tough, exiting matches."

Next up for the Burghers is a meet at home against Queensbury on Tues. Jan. 27 and against Granville, away, Thurs. Jan. 29.

War-Eagle wrestlers score

In other wrestling action Thursday, Salem beat the Hadley-Luzerne-Lake George War Eagles 48 to 21.

Earning points for the War Eagles were:

At 112 pounds, Hadley Luzerne Eighth Grader Joe Plante decisioned opponent Mantkelow, 14-7.

At 125, Hadley-Luzerne Junior Cecil Hayes decisioned opponent Fleming, 5-0.

In the 135-pound weight class, Lake George Sophomore Hunter Hamilton Hamilton decisioned opponent Tobin, 4-3.

In the heavyweight 285-pound class, Lake George Sophomore Jack Clark pinned opponent DeMarco in 3:21.

At 96 pounds, Lake George Eighth Grader Dan Jardine won by forfeit.
