WARRENSBURG - Five Burgher wrestlers pinned their opponents during a meet Thursday against Whitehall that the Railroaders won 52-33. Whitehall is presently leading the Adirondack League in team wins.
In the 96-pound class, freshman Jon Vaisey pinned Al Aubin in a lightning-fast 25 seconds to lead the lightweight bouts in the meet.
At 125 pounds, Burgher Logan Winter writhed his way out of several complex holds and turned the tables on Jake Rovelli, pinning him in 4:54.
In the 145- pound class, junior Cole Tennant, a commendable 11-4 so far this season, pinned Matt Evans in 2:59 by reversing Evans and turning him on his back.
Wrestling in the light-heavyweight 215 class, state tourney contender Logan Rock pinned Grant Gebo in 2:55. After a stalemate first period with both resisting each other's attempts for a takedown, the second period provided action for spectators when Gebo attempted a headlock on Rock, who immediately re-rolled him into a pinning combination.
In the heavyweight 285 class, Burgher Colin Campbell used his considerable leverage to his advantage, whipping Justin Millett into a headlock, forcing him to the mat and pinning him in 43 seconds.
Also winning for Warrensburg was sophomore Sean Young, who decisioned Chris Bartholomew 16-10 in a comeback win with a slew of takedowns. This was Young's second win of the season.
For Whitehall, returning Section II Champion Curt Thompson, who won fourth place in the state tournament last year, pinned the experienced, athletic Donovan Santisteban of Warrensburg in 3:34.
Other Railroaders tallying pins were Brett Christian at 130 defeating Mason Morey in 1:53; Eric Ripley over Noah Davis at 135 in 28 seconds; Nate LaGoy at 152 pounds over Andrew Fish in 2:43; Travis Beayon, who at 160 pounds is factored to win Section II, pinned Travis Acuna in 42seconds, Troy Rollins at 171 pounds defeating Lucas Nelson in 4:14; and at 189 pounds, returning Section II champion Zach Diekel pinning Kendall Converse in 2:34.
