High school girls basketball

WILLSBORO - The Warriors pulled away from Elizabethtown-Lewis in the second half as they notched another victory in MVAC girls basketball Jan. 15.

Jennifer Murphy scored 10 of her 12 points in the third quarter as Willsboro outscored the Lions 20-9.

Alicia Mahoney was key for the Warriors as she hit eight free throws on her way to 20 points. Ashley Sherman added 16 for Willsboro

Westport 60, Johnsburg 22

JOHNSBURG - The Eagles continued their winning ways on Jan. 15 with a decisive victory over Johnsburg in MVAC girls basketball.

Every player on the roster scored as Westport raced to a 29-10 lead at halftime. Kalika Hopkins was the high scorer with 16 points. Martha McKinley added 15 and Christina Sherman 10.

Johnsburg got most of their scoring from Martina Svrchek, who had 11 points.

Westport 50, Indian/Long Lake 31

INDIAN LAKE - Nine Westport players made it into the scoring column as the Eagles defeated the Orange in MVAC girls basketball Jan. 17.

Westport jumped out to an early 16-7 lead and outscored Indian Lake/Long Lake in every quarter.

Sarah Gibbs and Martha McKinley each had 10 points for the Eagles. Rebecca White added eight.

The Orange cut the lead to 10 late in the fourth, but were silenced the rest of the game.
