TICONDEROGA - Inter-Lakes Health in Ticonderoga has eliminated 15 positions.
The health care facility also made six full-time positions part-time, according to spokesman Pat Dowd.
The lay offs account for 6 percent of the Inter-Lakes workforce, which now stands at 230 people. The action was announced Jan. 19.
Dowd blamed the cuts on "the difficult economic conditions in the North Country and throughout the country."
The positions are in clerical and support staff, Dowd said, and will not affect patient care. "Like many organizations today, particularly health care providers, Inter-Lakes is faced with unprecedented financial challenges," Inter-Lakes CEO Kevin Haughney said. "The worsening economy, lower health care reimbursements and the pending state budget cuts are resulting in significant decreases in our revenue, and forcing us to make some very difficult decisions.
"These decisions were extremely difficult, but absolutely necessary in order to help ensure the long-term survival of our organization and the critically important services we provide to our community," Haughney said. "We would like to offer our thanks to those employees for their years of service to Inter-Lakes and our patients, and wish them and their families the very best in the future."
Inter-Lakes will continue to monitor developments in the state budget negotiations, and will continue to work to keep down costs while providing excellent health care and emergency medicine, Dowd said.
The health services of Inter-Lakes Health include Moses-Ludington Hospital, which provides emergency care, day surgery, diagnostic testing, primary care and rehabilitation services; Heritage Commons Residential Healthcare, a skilled nursing facility for long-term and temporary rehabilitative care; Lord Howe Estates, an apartment complex for senior citizens and persons with disabilities eligible for federal housing assistance; Moses-Ludington Adult Care, an adult home; Inter-Lakes Medical Supply, a medical equipment and products company; and Inter-Lakes Dental Clinic.
All are housed on the Inter-Lakes Health campus in Ticonderoga.
