Volunteers sought for town service

The Sugar Loaf Mountain Seniors Club meets Sat. Jan. 17 at noon with a covered dish luncheon at the Thurman Town Hall. Yearly dues can be paid and food items can be brought in for the group's next box to Iraq.

All those wishing to join can stop by the meeting or call Norma at 623-9425.

The Thurman Town Board will hold its monthly fiscal meeting Mon. Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. and to conduct its regular business agenda on Tues. Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.

The Gleaning food distribution will be held in Thurman at the Town Hall on Tues. Jan. 20 at 11 a.m. This free food program is open to all Thurman residents. For information, call 623-9649.

Was everyone happy to see their tax bills come before the first of the new year?

Did you note the county rate was 4.9 percent and the town was 30.0 percent? Any comments?

Did you remember to save the fronts of your Christmas Cards for the Christmas Basket Committee to use next December? They can be dropped officiating at the Thurman Town Hall, marked for Helen.

Many neighbors were upset after driving to the Athol General Store during the holidays and finding it closed. No notice was given so we hope everything with the family is okay.

Hey! Some say the distance from the corner of Rte. 9 and Rte. 418 in Warrensburg to the Thurman Bridge is only 3.1 miles, but the sign says 5 miles to Thurman. Who's right?

To all seniors: Remember to save your 1099 form from social security for 2008. Also, all interest or income forms and turn them in for the STAR exemption before March 1. The local assessors will copy them for all exemptions. Call 623-4593 for information.
