Ti Elks honor teacher

TICONDEROGA - The officers and members of Ticonderoga Elks Lodge #1494 recently awarded teacher Susan M. Fahey for her dedication to the youth and community of Ticonderoga.

In 1985 Fahey encouraged her third graders to become aware of the needs of others, and they began working with the Elks Christmas Charities Program.

That year, and ever since, each third grade class has collected numerous canned and other non-perishable food items which are then collected by the Elks for distribution to area needy families on Christmas Eve .

Even after her retirement from teaching, Fahey continued to help coordinate the collection of goods.

During the past few years, to show their appreciation, the Elks with the assistance of Santa Claus, have put on a luncheon at the lodge for the third graders and their teachers.
